Hello all!

I was finally getting back into blogging when dangit, if my whole life didn’t get turned upside down. I’m not going to go into crazy detail, because we have prettier things to talk about, but: in the past 90 days, I was evacuated from my home in Sonoma Country for over a month due to a massive firestorm that came RIGHT up to the edge of our house (we were renting) so while the house stayed in tact, there was a lot of smoke damage and we lost all of our clothing, bedding, textiles, (my throw pillows, my dresses, waaaaah!) and some furnishings. The area was toxic and the cost to live in California – as bad as it already was, got a million times worse overnight, and honestly, I was just kind of tired of being there. So we moved to Kansas City. Done.

I shall fill you in on KC details later (but I am writing this from THE most gorgeous apartment, and it’s snowing outside). Yep, snow. Grey. Cold. Kind of blah. Which makes me want bright colors, bold stripes, fresh florals, and to be honest an all around stylish Kate Spade vibe – so I’ve put together this round-up of some of the prettiest wedding + party details I could find, because we could probably all use a little bright inspiration right about now. (sources + more info below).

Wedding, Kate Spade, Floral Moodboard

I’m super-inspired by the stationery by Kate Spade for Paperless Post. I started using Paperless Post years ago, and have sent every party invite with them ever since. I’m obsessed with their style (I think I still have a catalog from 3 years ago) and the photo styling is the best. My other favorite features include the fact that you can send an online invitation, as well as a paper version. What I’ve done in the past is to send out the online invite, and then order a paper copy as a keepsake from the party. For a wedding, you could “save the date” online, and then send out your matching wedding invitations + thank you notes. Another fave feature is the tracking, especially for kids parties. If you send invites for birthday parties to school with your kids, chances are good they will never get to the right hands. This way you know. Plus you can download the app to keep track of everything on the go. Another favorite thing about PP? That logo! Adorable. I am a huge fan, clearly.

Here are the links to everything in the roundup, and P.S. – I was in the middle of updating my website when we were evacuated, so huge pieces of it are missing. Boo. We’re already booking design projects well into spring, but I WILL find time to update the portfolio! xox0 (this is a sponsored post, but these are my actual opinions).

Well, I’ll tell ya what. I was a little overzealous when I decided to post one mood board a week. Not that it takes too long to create, but I always want to add something to it. And then one more thing. And then another, making it a much bigger thing than it should be. I tend to do this with most things. I always want to add something extra, something special. As much I know this is a good thing, it also holds up the show a bit. For instance, I’m posting Moody Tuesday at 10:00 pm on Thursday (but I’m sure you won’t even see this until at least Friday). Truthfully though, this time of year is THE BUSIEST (I just booked a project designing a custom wedding suite: how fun is that?) so blogging comes after clients, and that’s just the way it is. Moving on.

This weeks Mood Board is called Juicy Details. The bright saturated colors create instant happiness, and then there’s cake and books. Not sure what else you need from a Mood Board really.

I added a few brush-style fonts, and after typing “Eat More Art” I decided to turn it into a print that you can download for free below. (Good example of me adding that extra thing).  I’ve had a few people say they don’t get it – and that’s cool. I can’t tell you exactly what it’s supposed to mean, but I guess for me it serves as a reminder to to incorporate (ingest) more art into daily life. It’s good for the soul. So print it if you feel it – and if you post on insta, please do tag us. @deluxemodern. Happy Tues- I mean Friday.

If you need a daily reminder to eat a steady diet of art, (or maybe you’re just tired of “do what you love, love what you do” quotes) click here to download our print. (It’s 8.5 x 11 btw). As always, all images are from the Deluxemodern Lifestyle + Design Pinterest Boards, or I took  / created the images myself. (Go to our boards to see if you can find them)!

This pretty pale color palette is everything.

I’ve never liked neutrals or fall colors, but this nude palette somehow combines both and takes them up a notch into something more sophisticated. A better version of both, if you ask me. I’m so in love with these colors that I created a little workbook with color swatches and web numbers (I even made up names and pulled colors from the images, because that’s my idea of fun). You  can either save for future reference, or pin to go along with the mood board. I designed the logos, and included font names in the workbook as well. The nude logo was created for the post, the Grey Jones Logo is for a custom client. I halfway think this is my sneaky and subtle way of creating yet another pink mood board, because there is quite a bit of blush in there.  Everything looks better with a little pink, no?

Some of the swatch book names I had fun coming up with: Spun Sugar, Champagne Fizz, Melon Ball, Pale Ginger, Iced Mocha, Coconut Water, Sheer Cotton, Salted Carmel, Pastel Grey, Creamy Blush.

Deluxemodern WorkbookI used Adobe Illustrator to create this mood board / color palette, but Canva and Pic Monkey have options for making them online. There are lots of ways to pull colors from images, and I use Software called Color Snapper (for Mac, you can get it in the app store).

Along with updating my (long-overdue-website-so -long-in-fact-that-I’m-tired -of saying-it), I will be offering some new services, and removing some as well. One of the things I’ll be offering is Brand Coaching, which, in short, means that I will look over your brand identity and tell you exactly what needs to be done in order to refine and elevate your business. You will end up with clarity, simplicity, and a smart beautiful brand that you have full control of. If I can answer any questions before that info is added to our site, please feel free to contact me: coco@deluxemoderndesign.com.

*all moodboard images sourced from the Deluxemodern Lifestyle + Design Pinterest board, with the exception of the pink house. I took that while hanging out of a car window while in San Francisco. (it was a pink house, what else could I do)?

Welcome to Moody Tuesday at Deluxemodern.  This is a new blog series of mood boards with design + style inspiration every week (on Tuesday, yes yes) so please plan to start your collection now.

Why? Because I adore mood boards. I love looking at them, designing them for clients, for myself, and creating wall-sized versions out of magazine pages, cards, tags, and anything else that strikes my fancy at the moment. I have always marveled at the sheer amount of gorgeous photography and inspiration you can get for six bucks in a magazine, and I think I single-handedly keep the industry alive. I could never trade it for digital, ever.  I decided on a series that’s fun to create, pretty,  and hopefully inspiring to you as well!

Volume one is called Chic as Usual which is gorgeous, sleek, and has that “coolest girl you know” vibe. Rich in every sense of the word: glossy black, gold, fringe benefits on the light fixture, artful manicure, pink florals, oysters, champagne cocktails, and THAT DRESS. Very New York mixed with Paris. I’m in love with this one. Say hello to the first Moody Tuesday.

Please use the hashtag #moodytuesday and we may feature your mood board on our instagram account.

I’m creating these using Adobe Illustrator, but if you want to make them (and don’t have the software) Canva and Pic Monkey are fab alternatives. Let us know what you think of this new series, and if you have an idea for upcoming Moodboards, please comment below!

Happy fall y’all! It’s time for a little fall color & fashion inspiration to kick the season off in style.
The Fall Style Icon

Somehow, fall always takes me by surprise. One day it’s summer, and the next day: wham! Get yer sweaters out kids, it’s gettin’ chilly. We have the full 4 seasons here in California, and it’s great. I much prefer fall over summer, and I seriously think it’s for the clothes (and the french cassoulet that my husband is making for dinner tonight), but anyone who knows me, knows this: there will be no pumpkin spice. No PSL lattes, no candles, no nothing. Yucky. (Google the SNL pumpkin spice skit if you haven’t seen it: you’re welcome). I also don’t love traditional fall colors: the oranges, browns and (pumpkin) colors usually associated with it, so I’ve created a more sophisticated / luxe / neutral color palette that I adore, and, as usual, I’ve named the colors whatever I feel like.

These would be beautiful accents for your fall wardrobe, make up, home decor + accessories, branding or website. I can’t get enough, and yes, leopard is a color.

(quick funny story: when my oldest daughter was 5, she saw a vintage leopard chaise in an antique store and she told the woman behind the counter “this is my mommy’s favorite color”. How cute. And true. Above are some of my fave fall pieces, and if any one wants to get me that ring, I’ll send you my address. Soft, pretty, non-trad fall. Love it. (click image to shop).
I hope you enjoy them, and there are a million ways to grab the color codes for matching these, just use The Google for that too. Happy Fall!
