This pretty pale color palette is everything.

I’ve never liked neutrals or fall colors, but this nude palette somehow combines both and takes them up a notch into something more sophisticated. A better version of both, if you ask me. I’m so in love with these colors that I created a little workbook with color swatches and web numbers (I even made up names and pulled colors from the images, because that’s my idea of fun). You  can either save for future reference, or pin to go along with the mood board. I designed the logos, and included font names in the workbook as well. The nude logo was created for the post, the Grey Jones Logo is for a custom client. I halfway think this is my sneaky and subtle way of creating yet another pink mood board, because there is quite a bit of blush in there.  Everything looks better with a little pink, no?

Some of the swatch book names I had fun coming up with: Spun Sugar, Champagne Fizz, Melon Ball, Pale Ginger, Iced Mocha, Coconut Water, Sheer Cotton, Salted Carmel, Pastel Grey, Creamy Blush.

Deluxemodern WorkbookI used Adobe Illustrator to create this mood board / color palette, but Canva and Pic Monkey have options for making them online. There are lots of ways to pull colors from images, and I use Software called Color Snapper (for Mac, you can get it in the app store).

Along with updating my (long-overdue-website-so -long-in-fact-that-I’m-tired -of saying-it), I will be offering some new services, and removing some as well. One of the things I’ll be offering is Brand Coaching, which, in short, means that I will look over your brand identity and tell you exactly what needs to be done in order to refine and elevate your business. You will end up with clarity, simplicity, and a smart beautiful brand that you have full control of. If I can answer any questions before that info is added to our site, please feel free to contact me: coco@deluxemoderndesign.com.

Welcome to Moody Tuesday at Deluxemodern.  This is a new blog series of mood boards with design + style inspiration every week (on Tuesday, yes yes) so please plan to start your collection now.

Why? Because I adore mood boards. I love looking at them, designing them for clients, for myself, and creating wall-sized versions out of magazine pages, cards, tags, and anything else that strikes my fancy at the moment. I have always marveled at the sheer amount of gorgeous photography and inspiration you can get for six bucks in a magazine, and I think I single-handedly keep the industry alive. I could never trade it for digital, ever.  I decided on a series that’s fun to create, pretty,  and hopefully inspiring to you as well!

Volume one is called Chic as Usual which is gorgeous, sleek, and has that “coolest girl you know” vibe. Rich in every sense of the word: glossy black, gold, fringe benefits on the light fixture, artful manicure, pink florals, oysters, champagne cocktails, and THAT DRESS. Very New York mixed with Paris. I’m in love with this one. Say hello to the first Moody Tuesday.

I’m creating these using Adobe Illustrator, but if you want to make them (and don’t have the software) Canva and Pic Monkey are fab alternatives. Let us know what you think of this new series, and if you have an idea for upcoming Moodboards, please comment below!

Happy fall y’all! It’s time for a little fall color & fashion inspiration to kick the season off in style.
The Fall Style Icon

Somehow, fall always takes me by surprise. One day it’s summer, and the next day: wham! Get yer sweaters out kids, it’s gettin’ chilly. We have the full 4 seasons here in California, and it’s great. I much prefer fall over summer, and I seriously think it’s for the clothes (and the french cassoulet that my husband is making for dinner tonight), but anyone who knows me, knows this: there will be no pumpkin spice. No PSL lattes, no candles, no nothing. Yucky. (Google the SNL pumpkin spice skit if you haven’t seen it: you’re welcome). I also don’t love traditional fall colors: the oranges, browns and (pumpkin) colors usually associated with it, so I’ve created a more sophisticated / luxe / neutral color palette that I adore, and, as usual, I’ve named the colors whatever I feel like.

These would be beautiful accents for your fall wardrobe, make up, home decor + accessories, branding or website. I can’t get enough, and yes, leopard is a color.

(quick funny story: when my oldest daughter was 5, she saw a vintage leopard chaise in an antique store and she told the woman behind the counter “this is my mommy’s favorite color”. How cute. And true. Above are some of my fave fall pieces, and if any one wants to get me that ring, I’ll send you my address. Soft, pretty, non-trad fall. Love it. (click image to shop).
I hope you enjoy them, and there are a million ways to grab the color codes for matching these, just use The Google for that too. Happy Fall!

Happy end of summer! I shall refrain from complaining about how long it’s been since I’ve blogged (except I will say that I couldn’t remember my login…) because I’m really excited to tell you guys about something so FAB I wish I’d thought of it myself! Here goes: earlier this year I was fortunate to work with three talented ladies who were starting their dream biz:  a subscription box that delivers beautiful, tasteful home accessories quarterly. As I am a lover of all things decorative, (and tasteful, and beautiful) I was really excited to work on their project. Sometimes working with several clients on one project can get tricky (input x 3) but not the case here. They were dreamy, and so is their product! (more below)…

Deluxemodern Design

We were all very happy with the chic & sophisticated result of the brand identity, and the ladies were so sweet to send me one of their fabulous boxes last month – (I posted about it on instagram here and here). When I opened the box I was blown away by the attention to detail with the way everything was packaged (plus I love seeing a brand come to life like that). The shipping box was branded, everything was wrapped in beautiful tissue, and every little gold foil label had a brand touch or logo. AND a personalized card with my name in pink. Sold. The real excitement was unwrapping everything. This was literally like Christmas – I had no idea what was inside, but I knew I was going to love it. A solid marble frame, an beautiful faux flower arrangement with lots of natural elements and white orchids in mercury glass, a rustic wooden tray (perfect for cocktails or gathering things on your desk), a beautiful glass pedestal container (I have already used it for pencils and straws), two gorgeous crystal rocks pieces that make perfect bookends – I love these so much (and would never know where to find them on my own)…. AND, a linen covered book and a small collection of feathers – some white, some gold -that are the perfect accessories to – well, the accessories.

Deluxemodern Design

I think the greatest part though, is that this collection works with any type of home decor. They have so very carefully curated the pieces to be neutral, stylish and very high-end. They make a statement while blending in with what you already have happening in your home or office. This would make a great wedding gift, and I can really see decorators working it into their clients homes as well. I for one, am in. I can’t wait to get my next box! I also have a discount code for you when you order your first Classic  or Luxe box: visit www.styledhomebox.com and use DMSHB10.

Both the ladies from SHB and I would love to hear your thoughts on the branding and boxes. Kisses!

Last week  I walked into my youngest daughter Lily’s room, looked around, and said “nope”. This has got to go . Do you ever just  sort of *see* something for this first time, even though you look at it everyday? That’s what happened.

Pastel Bedroom Makeover from Deluxemodern Design

The walls were a navajo-ish beige, which came with the house – but as the oak trees outside of her room have gotten bigger, it’s gotten really dark in there. Combine that with my “here, have this huge hot pink rug I bought for my office but don’t love” (I’m talking hot pink and really, really big), along with other assorted pieces I decided would be cute but didn’t have any real thought behind them -and  it was suddenly just yucky. This is not a happy cheerful place for a kid. Time for an overhaul.

The last big room makeover she had was when she turned 5. Now she’s about to turn 10. We’re planning her tenth birthday shindig, and this kid LOVES to party. She also loves ice cream, like a little too much – and she’s decided on an “ice cream pool party.” We sort of turned that into the theme for her new room, without even realizing it.

One trip to Target, one trip to Amazon, one spin around my garage, a quick trip to Lowes, and we’re almost done with everything. (That was on Thursday, today is Monday). Thursday we went to Target and picked up a few things, starting with a pink lamp that you can tap to turn on and off from the Pillowfort line. She pretty much thinks that’s the coolest thing. Then we found two mint striped rugs, and had a plan. Friday I bought some super sheer curtains, a dust skirt and some party decor from Amazon, and I spent Saturday cleaning out her room of anything she didn’t need. Sunday morning, my husband was at Lowes picking up paint – we used “The Bubbly” in a satin finish. It’s a gorgeous bright white, and my office & kitchen are both painted this color. It’s perfect. Really perfect. He was done painting (2 coats) by 1:00 pm.  Yes.

Were using many things we already had of course – the bedding, bench, teepee, vintage mirror, round gold shelf , ikea bookcases, and ice cream sheets (not pictured), and we’re going to do a few DIY projects to add to the mix.

Anyway. We pulled together this ice cream dreamy pastel party bedroom look without a bunch of time or money, and it’s JUST SO CUTE. I can’t wait to finish it up and show you before and afters!
